This 1/5th HQS+ statue transcribes the final scene of the second opus of the saga : Dawn of The Planet of the Apes. We can here bear witness to the Cornelian choice open to Caesar : betray the very principle of his just values by acting for the common good, or conform to his fundamental beliefs, thereby jeopardizing the future of his community. The unbearable tension felt during such a fierce battle between Caesar and Koba, inspired the creation of a bold piece, full of controversial emotions. The strength of this passage, beyond its intrinsic graphic qualities, light and dynamism, lies in the psychological aspect emanating from the close relationship between the characters, but also in the dramatic aspect of the situation. Starting from this switchover idea, we decided to play on the notion of balance with the main point of tension being the grip connecting the two characters at arm's length. This vertical hyphen connects the expression on the faces of both characters as well as the deaf dialogue that has developed between them over time. Indeed, the two monkeys, although both having grown up with humans, have lived opposite experiences that have altered their objectivity, nourishing a growing feeling of hate or love. It was therefore essential to perfectly transcribe the DNA of the two similar ones, who, despite their resemblance, are unable to understand each other, as evidenced by the striking power of their facial and bodily expressions. The hairs were sculpted on their bodies in translucent resin and then painted with brown, beige and black shades. Their look and attitude reflect all their complexity, subtly evoked at this intense moment of the film, hingeing on meaning, tension and emotion. The eyes of the two protagonists have been filled with a transparent resin and then covered with varnish to recreate the natural shape of the cornea, breathing life into their gaze. Although his fate is now in the hands of his opponent, Koba's gaze reflects more rage than fear, while Caesar stares at him, suspended in space, at his mercy. He has now to make the wisest but also the most difficult decision… Koba's gaze has betrayed him: he rejected his help in the past and repudiated his last chance today. The whole composition of the decor is intended to reinforce the state of this precarious balance, built like a house of cards ready to collapse. The chaos that can be seen on the frame reflects the one that reigns in the hearts of the characters at this tragic moment : a devastating upheaval both inside and outside. The pieces of corrugated and rusty shell, the charred wooden planks and tarpaulins, the scattered piles of stones, the damaged wires and yellow rods, the stains of humidity and other scattered debris, all contribute to the apocalyptic character of the scene. To reinforce the impression of emptiness under Koba, the base has been deliberately hollowed out, drawing attention to this life which, like the tower, is about to literally collapse... Caesar understands that no outstretched hand will ever be able to save it... His choice is made and the ties broken, while he already laments the lost opportunity for peace. Scale 1/5th. Edition 350 pieces. Estimated release date: Second semester of 2021*. Trivia To make the film, Judy Greer and Toby Kebbell had to learn, before playing their simian character, to move and behave physically like chimpanzees, using crutches to simulate the length of simian arms.
